2008 Richmond, Va. Road Meet Trip
July 2008
Day 6

These photos are from my trip to the Richmond, Va. road meet in July 2008. This trip combined the actual journey to Richmond with a multi-day county-collecting and sightseeing trip through Virginia and North Carolina. These are photos from the sixth day of the trip. The 140 photos are spread out over four pages of thumbnails. Use the arrow buttons in the upper left corner of the page to navigate the thumbnail pages. To view the full-sized photos, click on one of the thumbnails on this page. You will then be presented with navigation controls to view the images on individual Web pages as a slide show.

The first photo on the final day of the trip is of the East Beckley Connector, which is not complete as an eastern bypass of Beckley.

This is heading south on the connector.

A view of the connector's bridge with the I-64 interchange in the distance.

Heading west on I-64 approaching the WV Turnpike.

At the stack interchange for I-77 and I-64.

Normal I-64 and I-77 shields.

And these have the font exclusive to the WV Turnpike.

Somehow this exit gore sign, with the unusual font, didn't get changed out during the major sign replacement project for the turnpike in 2006.

Overheads on the ramp from the turnpike to WV 16. This is a pretty complicated interchange.

This is the beginning of WV 97.

WV 97 was established as a straight route from Beckley to Twin Falls State Park and Pineville. In fact, it replaced WV 54 as the co-signed route on this portion of WV 16. However, this overhead signage in conjunction with the Coalfields Expressway omits WV 97.

When the Coalfields Expressway is completed, it will veer to the left and cross over a ramp to WV 16 and WV 54/97.

At least WV 97 is not omitted on this sign.

This is on WV 16 at the longstanding intersection of WV 54 (the terminus, in fact) and the split of WV 97.

This sign is on the ramp from WV 54/97 to the Coalfields Expressway heading south.

The Coalfields Expressway is slated to become US 121 when it is completed in West Virginia and Virginia and links the WV Turnpike with US 23. For now, WV 121 signs have been installed.
